From the Publisher...

America in the 19th century: railroads are booming! Pioneer spirit and vision are everywhere. Everyone wants to be the first to build a railroad network across the country. Each player has five cities and tries to connect them with a shared network of tra cks. As soon as a player has done this, the round ends. The other players lose points. At the end of the game, the player who has the most points left is the winner!

Who will be the first to connect his cities? Is it Casey, who was the first t o build through the mountains to the west? Or Annie, who was the one who best made use of the others' tracks?

Nice light game. Easy to play with non-gamers to show them there is a world outside of Monopoly and Risk.

I really like TransAmerica. This is a great filler game to play in between games or as a start into other games. You can play one game in under 30 minutes. The rules are easy to learn and the game is fun. It takes strategy and luck. Luck comes into play into what cards you are dealt or choose. Then the strategy comes in when you try to connect your cities with tracks. Make sure you choose the right spot to start building your railroad!

A pretty light game, fairly quick and pretty fun. I'm glad to see the Vexation expansion (anyone can use any route to connect your citys in the base game, this expansion allows you to lay a couple special colored rail segments to claim a route for your own use only) being included, it took me years to come across and it adds a bit of route stealing screw-you to the game, so you can add some spice and depth from time to time. Light enough to try with non-gamers.

Jon
This fun game is accessible to everyone. It plays quickly, is easy to teach, and even a bit educational. Once everyone connects to the same network it gets a little tense as you hope you get that one more turn to finish your connections. But someone else could beat you to it. I like that this game is cooperative and that you can't get blocked out.
