Sucking Vacuum (2nd edition - Ultimate)   (View Game)
   James Belfast

Sucking Vacuum was fun even in its first edition, which had black and white art that was (being charitable) not so great; but the game itself was fun, so I when they came out with a new full-color edition, I bought it (sight unseen, other than the cover)... Once I got it though... WOW! The art is not just full-color, it's SUPERB! The whole Space Station looks like it was done in a 3D program – as do the object and character counters – and done by somebody with a lot of skill, too! The whole thing is beautiful! Even better, most of the rooms contain tiny little details that you may recognize if you're into Science Fiction... stuff like Han Solo frozen in carbonite in the Cargo Bay, or an Alien face-hugger in a containment jar in the Medical Lab, or a Dalek tucked behind some barrels of radioactive waste in Engineering. (I'm naming those rooms myself, based on what they look like.) When I played it with my friends, we spent almost as much time peering at those map tiles, finding those little "easter eggs," as we did playing the game! The rules have also been streamlined a bit since the first edition, and two new versions of the game were added: Tournament Rules, and an "Alien Incursion" variant where the Space Station is invaded by little grey aliens with Stun Prods, looking for test subjects. (And I thought the game couldn't get any more fun!) To put it all shortly: THIS GAME ROCKS! You cannot find a better way to spend twenty bucks on a game. Sucking Vacuum is ten times more fun (and has ten times better art) than anything in the same price range; and it's half the price of anything comparable in quality. BUY IT! You will love it!
