217,453,883 years, seven months and 26 days before our time, the first dinosaurs left their home in the sea and climbed onto the land. The ever-changing climate was their first adversary, forcing them to remain constantly on the move. But weather was not their only problem... In order to survive and flourish, they had to evolve, and to do it quickly! In EVO, you control the survival and evolution of a species of dinosaurs called "Dinos". You guide their migrations to temperate climates, you acquire the perfect genes to develop your Dinos and mutate them, and you push out other creatures that have yet to learn the meaning of the term "dominant species." At the end of the game, you and your Dinos will not be the winners unless you've evolved more quickly and successfully than everyone else.
Each turn is divided into 6 phases, in which Dinos move, fight, reproduce and evolve to ensure that their species has the characteristics to survive the various perils of prehistoric life. Players earn and spend mutation points to adapt their species for survival. But don't spend all of them -- the remainder are counted to determine the winner.
Careful bidding, a sharply honed survival instinct and inspired foresight are the keys to winning EVO. With very few random elements, EVO combines diverse game mechanics to keep both a tactical edge and an unusual sense of whimsy. Varied enough to play over and over again, EVO is a game that the entire family will enjoy!

|Evo is a game of evolving dinosaurs by Euro Games. In this game, players have to evolve their dinosaurs to cope with ever changing climatic conditions. The evolutions are obtained by bidding against other players for them, and contain evolutions such as fur, extra legs, egg laying capabilities, etc. The player able to best keep his dinosaurs from dying emerges as the victor! A really fun game of strategy that I highly recommend!
|A great game to introduce to new gamers of all ages. Easy to learn, fun to play, and with appealing and amusing pictures.
|I picked up this game just because its been hard to find forever, and I was extremely impressed with the gameplay beyond any of my expectations!
The crux of this game is the climate track. During each turn, the climate has a 4/6 chance of progressing forwards, 1/6 chance of staying the same, and a 1/6 chance of actually moving backwards. The effect of this is that the already limited board space becomes even more cramped as each player scrambles to find a safe location to rest their dinos for the turn. This crush leads to conflict, which will largely be resolved based on how you have been able to develop the genes of your dinos up to that point.
Over the course of the game, you have the opportunity to sculpt and change your dinos which leads to some interesting different strategies that you can employ. To date, I have been beaten by 4-legged dinos that pumped out babies like nobody's business, by a 3 horned fur-toting monstrosity, and by a dinos that could weather any climate due to their abundance of fun and umbrellas! There are many ways to go about this game, but you have to know your own strengths and limitations.
|Killer babies! Baby dinosaurs, that is. In Evo, you play a geneticist that manipulates the traits of his or her dinosaurs in order to survive, but they all die in the end when the asteroid hits, so what's the point of this game...? Make your dinosaurs live as long as possible by moving them to a specific climate area. Game play involves fighting other players dinosaurs for territory. Graphics are amazing and the game pieces are well-made. You should probably just buy this game for the dinosaur meeples. Ha ha.
